28th January. Dark Runnings.

I pass a woman running the other way, the light from the street lights isn't quite enough to see what kind of trainers she's wearing, it's unlikely she would notice the absence of footwear on my part.

Of course it's more or less complete madness but if other people can run across a stoney desert surely you can run a few miles on a tarmac road?

Well we're up to 5 km.

Isn't there a noticeable difference in sound when you are running without trainers? I.e much quieter?

I wouldn't be overly worried about receiving glances from your lack of footware. I'd be more concerned about the holey long johns. That rounds off the "just escaped" look.

I've taken that particular point to heart and just wear clothing appropriate to buying a pint of milk say.

With the correct foot placement which absorbs all the shock in the foot, there should be virtually no sound at all, apart from splashing through puddles or when landing on a sharp stone in a pothole.
